Scope and Contents

John Busch was a 19 year old private in Company K, 8th Minnesota Regiment, from 1862-1865. Most of his activity was frontier duty in Minnesota during the Civil War and Indian Wars. The collection contains copies of two letters written by Busch to his parents, dated December 23, 1862 at Fort Ripley, and May 30, 1864 at Fort Ridgely. The letters are written in German . A typed English translation is included.
