Pfingston, a former National Vice President and Iowa state officer of NFO, was responsible for organizing northwest Iowa and southern Minnesota. Held the first NFO meeting in Minnesota on April 12, 1960, at Iona, MN. Discussion on role of NFO in rural America, its early organization in Iowa and Minnesota, problems in early years, and growth of the NFO. Some reflections on the Farm Holiday Association movement as a protest group in Iowa and Minnesota.

Mrs. Elias Hoversten was born in Norway in 1887 as Martha Elena Houen (Johnson). She attended grade school there and in 1902, at the age of 15, she immigrated to America with her uncle. She came to Iowa where she lived with her uncle's family and worked as a housekeeper. She met her future husband Elias Hoversten, married, and moved near Marshall, Minnesota.
